Buffalo Trace Package Design

The Buffalo Trace Distillery is in Frankfort, KY and sits right on an ancient buffalo trail called the Great Buffalo Trace, thus the name. They have won more awards for their products than all other bourbon distilleries combined, including Distillery of the Year twice! When they wanted to create a flagship brand they came to SPAR.

The objectives were to create a package design that captured the majesty and power of the buffalo with the tradition and history behind a distillery that dates all the way back to the 1700’s. Not only did the package have to do that in a timeless fashion, but it also had to have strong shelf presence.

The package design does all it has been called to do, and the brand is growing at a healthy pace that the distillery has to carefully manage, because the product inside was made nine years ago and there is only so much of it available.
